Dunstan Baby Language Oprah Show – Some Facts

OK After Seeing this on Oprah years ago, and then seeing it two more time on re-runs I was wondering if it was worth it.

I’m going to tell you YES!  But before I go into why it was great for me, my decision to purchase the system was driven by reviews on Amazon. 

Before you run over to Amazon, there are a few things you should know about Amazon reviews.  First is, start with the negative reviews. Despite this product getting an endorsement from Oprah, it’s very easy for any company to pay for positive reviews on Amazon. I’m not saying don’t read the positive reviews, but pay more attention to the negatives, because certainly they haven’t been paid to post.

THE NEGATIVES

The good thing is that most of the negative reviews fell into two groups,

• Group 1 was from people who weren’t able distinguish the sounds with their children.
• Group 2 was from people who complained that the discs were too short, overpriced and had too many testimonials.

There was another bad review where the person did not even watch the 2nd CD, which to me makes her complaint not valid.  If it wasn’t working maybe she was doing something wrong, that she would have seen on the second CD?

THE POSITIVES

There were only 11 negative reviews to go through so that was fairly quick.  Then I tackled the positives….All 72 of them.  Most of the positive reviews mention the big Oprah endorsement, because let’s face it, Oprah is not going to put her name on anything that is going to taint her name.  And then she is not going to run a show, from 2007 over and over even on her new network if the product was trash.

Many people received the Dunstan Baby Language System as a Gift from a baby shower, and was skeptical until they put it to use.  Me with already having one kid, and knowing how much sleep I lost, and 6 months pregnant at the time I purchased this I was on the fence until I read this review:

As brand new parents of a baby girl, our first night at home was a bit unnerving. In the middle of the night our girl started wailing – and of course we had no idea why. We listened a bit more carefully and it sounded, based on the sample sounds we heard on this video, almost identical to what other babies screamed when they needed to be burped. So what the Heck Right?  If I could figure out the baby needs to be burped and fed, and my husband and I could get a few more hours sleep, $40 bucks would be well worth it.  So I took the plunge….However. MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

So let’s get down to it….

My husband and I watched this video 3 times before I had my child.  When we got the baby home, the Dunstan system paid for itself the first day.  After watching the video we thought, ok, this is going to be easy.  Right away we heard our baby saying Ney, so we new she was hungry.  Then we heard “Eh” which means burp me.  Sweet!

Then the wheels fell off.  We heard Ney again, and fed her, but after we heard “Eh”, and burped her she kept crying and would not stop.  We changed her, and she still continued to cry.  I looked at my husband and said, “So much for Dunstan and Oprah”.  Him being a perfectionist, popped the DVD in again, and listened.  He came back and said, “burp” her again.

“I just burped her honey”, I said.  He said, ” I distinctly here an “Eh”, burp her again!”

So I burped her and she belched.  We heard another “Eh”, I burped her again, and again until she was done.  almost 15 minutes of straight burping.  She stopped crying and soon after went to sleep.

Despite the most annoying grin on my husband’s face, for being right for once in his life, we both knew the the Dunstan System was the real deal.  Yes, $40 is too much for a DVD that you know costs about $.50 to make, but the information is priceless and it’s stuff that no one else is going to tell you.
